A Word on Tolerance

Tolerance is not acceptance.  There are many things in the world I have to tolerate, but I don't have to accept and, in fact, might fight against.

Yet in some ways, tolerance is for those with no conviction.  If you are not strong in your convictions, you'll fall victim to deceit, lies, and any nonsense people feed you.  Humanism, secular progressivism, and other liberal philosophies have taken hold in our society because not enough good people have stuck to their conservative convictions.
Tolerance has brought us too many bad things in today's world.  Political tolerance (and lack of will) has brought us political correctness.  Democrats' tolerance brought us terrorism.  Republican tolerance brought us illegal immigration and John McCain.  World tolerance brought us the United Nations, North Korea, Iran, and other evils in the world.  Voter tolerance (and stupidity) brought us Nobama.

The famous quote goes "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."  This is the problem with political moderates.  My own, not so famous saying, goes "right is right, left is wrong, and moderates don't have enough spine to take a stand."TM   The problem is tolerance.

Tolerance breeds deception. A perfect example is the rise of the Tea Party movement. Its one-issue focus on fiscal matters is a seemingly good thing.  However, their tolerance has brought them Pro-Choicers and other social liberals in significant numbers in their ranks.  It would have been much better for those fed up with Republicans to join a third party like the Constitution Party.  Tolerance brought us the "big tent" philosophy of political parties which I always thought was stupid.

Tolerance used to be good.  Jesus' tolerance for us sinners brought us redemption and everlasting life.  It seems that over the centuries, the definition of tolerance has changed, and in modern times it has brought us more bad than good.

3 Things About Islam

If you haven't seen this yet, it makes some good points. It loads slowly, so after you hit "play," pause it for a few seconds until it fully loads.  I'd suggest listening to it more than worrying about watching the words jump around.

Mosque at Ground Zero

I was going to write about how building this mosque is an Islamic middle finger towards any American who was affected by 9/11.  Then I was going to summarize all the reasons why this was a bad idea (the Imam with terrorist connections, etc.). Then I came across this short essay written by an old soldier from the Greatest Generation, and thought it did the job.

"Everyone has had the Jehova's Witness visit; Everyone has had the conversation with the Mormon missionaries; Everyone has been accosted on the street by some bible waving 'preacher' asking "Are YOU saved?"

None of them pulled an AK47 out from his bathrobe and blew your kids away, did they?

Did the Baptists down the street send their kid to school on the bus, with four pounds of Semtex in his lunchbox?

How 'bout those militant Methodists? Any of them dived a loaded plane into a building in your neighborhood? Lately, I mean?

Do those Hare Krishna hippies have a world wide conspiracy to kill all the Jews and forcibly convert the rest of humanity? No?

So there's a difference between Islam and most other religious observances? Ya think?

Is there such a thing as a 'moderate' Islamist? Like Major Hadam? If the argument is that there are 'moderate' Islamists, it is an admission that there are violent, murderous bastards running around.

Among us.

So why permit these killers of innocents; cowards and rabid dogs, to build at the very site of their biggest 'triumph', a mocking symbol of their victory? A symbol of your conquest.

In olden days, the conquerers came, killed whoever they would, raped and enslaved whoever they could. They took what they wanted whenever and wherever they found it, did what they pleased, to anybody and everybody.

And they built castles to remind you who was boss.

In later times, the castle became a fort, and then a base, and the soldiers were a little better behaved, thanks to the influence of Christianity.

Oh, I can hear some of you squalling that the Germans were Christians . . . and so they they were. But the Nazis were not. The Nazis were conquerers of the old school. Just like these Islamists.

Our enemy, these Islamists, live with a seventh century mindset . . . that's their religion. You behead sassy seven year olds.

How can you expect 'Christian' compassion from people who brutalize their own daughters?

How can you expect 'Peace, Love, and Tolerance' from the Sons of the Sword, who swear a blood feud against all non-believers? Mohammed led armies, not apostles. Hundreds of thousands of sword swinging fanatics; not twelve harried men going alone into the world to preach.

To build this there, after all that's happened, is a statement. Not of understanding or remorse, but a flat demonstration of intent. 'We have conquered here. We shall conquer everywhere. You shall be ours.'"
